Conditions for Submission

  • the work is original;
  • it has not been published previously in the same form;
  • it is not under consideration by another journal;
  • all authors have read and approved the manuscript;
  • all authors meet the journal’s authorship criteria;
  • all required disclosures and approvals have been provided.

Authorship and Contributorship

The journal follows the ICMJE authorship criteria. Authorship should be limited to those who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the work, participated in drafting or critical revision, approved the final version, and agreed to be accountable for the integrity of the work. Contributors who do not meet all authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • ensuring that the author list is correct;
  • confirming that all authors approved the submitted version;
  • providing all declarations, approvals, and supporting documents;
  • communicating with the journal during peer review and production;
  • responding to post-publication queries when needed.

Manuscript Preparation

General Format

Manuscripts should be prepared in clear, professional English and submitted in Microsoft Word format. Use standard fonts, continuous line spacing, page numbers, and simple formatting. Avoid embedded design elements that complicate production.

Abbreviations, Units, Drug Names, and Statistics

Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter. Standard international units should be used. Generic names should be used for drugs; trade names may be included in parentheses if necessary. Statistical methods should be described with enough detail to permit verification of the reported findings.

References

The journal recommends the Vancouver reference style. References should be numbered consecutively in the order they are cited in the text. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references. Where available, DOI numbers should be included.

PMC reviewers explicitly consider whether references are appropriate in number and up to date, and whether statements are supported by citations.

Tables, Figures, and Supplementary Material

Tables and figures must be cited in the text in numerical order. Each table and figure must have a clear title or legend. Figures should be high resolution and readable. Authors must obtain permission for any third-party copyrighted material and provide appropriate attribution.

Animal Studies

Research involving animals must state:

  • the approving ethics committee or oversight body;
  • compliance with institutional, national, or international animal welfare requirements.

Case Reports and Patient Consent

Case reports, clinical images, and any manuscript containing potentially identifiable patient information must confirm that appropriate patient consent for publication was obtained.

Data Sharing and Availability

Authors must include a Data Availability Statement describing whether the underlying data are available, where they can be accessed, and under what conditions. If data cannot be shared, the reason should be stated clearly, such as privacy, consent, or legal restrictions.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

If authors use generative AI or AI-assisted tools for language editing, writing assistance, figure generation, data analysis, or other aspects of manuscript preparation, this use must be disclosed at submission and in the manuscript where appropriate. AI tools must not be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, attribution, and integrity of all submitted material.

Plagiarism Screening and Publication Ethics

The journal does not consider manuscripts that involve plagiarism, duplicate publication, redundant publication, fabricated data, falsified data, manipulated images, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, or undisclosed competing interests. The journal may screen submissions using iThenticate and Turnitin.

If concerns arise before or after publication, the journal may request explanations, additional documentation, source data, or institutional review. Confirmed cases may lead to rejection, correction, retraction, expression of concern, or notification of the authors’ institutions or funders where appropriate.

Peer Review and Editorial Process

All manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening for scope, completeness, formatting, ethical documentation, and scientific suitability. Manuscripts that pass this stage are sent for double-anonymous peer review by at least two independent reviewers. The Editor-in-Chief or handling editor makes the final decision based on reviewer comments, editorial judgment, and the journal’s standards.

Possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

The journal may reject manuscripts without external review if they are out of scope, ethically deficient, methodologically weak, or unsuitable for the journal.
